Middleton's Sketchbook

If you have any love of illustration you need, yes need, to explore this blog!  Mr. Middleton is one of the most talented artists I can think of right now.  And one of my personal favorites!  Look around and buy his stuff.  He is that good.

3:21am: Tumble weeds?!
I swear I just saw one go by.

::bounce bounce::

There! See! Okay ... I'm realllllllllllly bad at this blogging thing. Come to think of it ... the purpose of this blog is really not being served. Very sad really. But there is a plan in the works to change that. ::sigh:: I just keep saying it ... maybe it will turn out this time.

::bounce bounce:: Damn you, tumbleweeds! PIERCING FLARE!! ::flaming tumbleweed ... bounce bounce:: Ha! Take that!

1:08am: Interesting shift

Okay ... so there's not much activity here ... that doesn't mean my brain is idle. It just means that I, the physical me, is. Then I go and change the fundamental point of view of the story. ::sigh:: I seem to thrive on making this process more difficult that it really needs to be. Blah. I want to have something to show for all this by the end of the summer. Which will hopefully translate into something that will continue into the future. That is all.

end of line.

12:44am: Nothing really to add
School ... ugh. Almost done for the semester. It is rather sucky only because I am going to fail a class. I hate failing. I do it enough on my own time, I don't need some bureaucratic juggernaut telling me I suck. With that in mind ... the results of this test, I found on my girlfriend's lj, seem ... well at odds.

Courage
You scored 73 TriForce!

There’s probably a statue of you in the center of town in memory of
some daring rescue of yours. You are either the hero or one of the
brave who help the hero fight against whatever happens to be attacking
Hyrule at the moment. You won’t take any sort of injustice or evil
sitting down. Actually, you’re right up their in the problems face with
your legendary sword taking it down! Hurray for you! You’re courageous!
Just try to be careful so you won’t end up dying an early death…

My test tracked 3 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

7:27pm: Wa-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-ay Behind

Okay. Sorry about this folks. I am quite behind schedule. I hope this is not a precedent. But I have another week before class actually starts. Hopefully I can get my stuff together and get something up before school again reclaims my life. But it is my last semester! ::cheer:: That aside I plan to get the basic page done in the next few days. So this weekend at the latest there will be something to see on the page. Which I haven't linked to yet because it's not ready yet. Any, I've not given up ... just really busy getting the garage in order. Please be patient.

8:06am: Erm ... Distracted

Hey all. I did promise art by the end of last week ... well as you may have noticed ... it ain't up yet. I just got a design I liked today ... I'll post either Wednesday or Thursday. I am also distracted by Prince of Persia goodness. I got PoP: Warrior Within for Christmas. ^______________^ Hackie slashie puzzle goodness! But those new Ninja-esqe chicks suck0rz! Although if you just keep swinging they can't hit back ... they don't have the range that the Prince's sword does, which is a good thing since you can't flip over them, they are highly agile, and they have very long devistating combos. But I will forego that to bring you art by Wednesday.

8:27am: Temp page up

Hey all. The temp page is up. It's just a 'coming soon' but I hope to supplant that with a truly designed page by the end of the week. All this poking around Photoshop reminds me that it has been frickin' forever since I last 1) made a web page 2) designed an interface 3) actually used Photoshop. My Photoshop skills are really rusty. Plus I need to experiment more and break out of my tired old effects that I always do. Anyway. There will be graphical goodness coming soon.

I guess those who don't know might like more of a tip as to what the story is about. Well so as not to give too much away ... let us just say that it is about the conflict between the forces of good and evil (oh ... how original) and the people caught in the crossfire (again with the originality). Angels and Demons play a big role in the story. Now for those of a fundamentalist bend ... I am not purposing that this is how the world works ... at least not completely. I know full well that the God is not contained in any box ... or structure that we can fully discern. These are my views ... sometimes edited for story telling sake. I don't claim to know all or understand any, this is just what I see, and what seems to make sense.

I guess I should introduce the characters:

  • Julian: A brooding, supernatural detective. yeah there's a lot of them about these days, but he's not your usual detective. he's 1/3 angel, 1/3 demon, and 1/3 human, talk about internal struggle! (Ph33r his angst) He is the central hero. Well protagonist at least.

  • Laila: A succubus. Yep, but not like the classic tales would have you believe. She isn't a 'demon' pure and out, she is also 1/2 human as all Sucubi and Incubi are.

  • Lullus: Incubus. He will be rather important later on. Right now though he's a main antagonist.

There are several more ... but these are the key players. Really Julian and Laila are the center pieces of my story. The story is about relationships and examining the nature of good and evil. Yep, big subjects, and oddly enough things that I know very little about. I am only now in my first, truly, dating relationship. So this will be a learning experience, I may have to adjust the story some to make up for my lack of knowledge of these things. But don't let all this heavy philosophy get you worried, I plan on putting in some good ol' fashioned hard boiled action too. After all the story is a slight nod to the film noir style, with a healthy dose of art deco ... well I hope at least. Okay enough of my rambling crap. Check back again soon. Friday should have some imagery up, if my girlfriend and Christmas don't distract me too much. ^_~ Heh.

7:40am: So it begins

This is the beginning. This is the beginning of our story. The beginning, the beginning of our tale. Well that's how Jim Morrison put it. Anyway this is the update and rant space for my comics. Here I will tell what is going on, what is planned and maybe even post some art and stuff. Mostly this is how I will endevor to keep you, my adoring reading public, all um two of you, up to date. So ... here's the plan.

  • create basic web pages. Nothing overly fancy. Just enough to get me by.

  • Begin the pencil and script process. I have some of this started already but I'll go back over it and edit it.

  • Post! And pray I can keep some sort of regular schedule.

My plan is to update in a similar pattern to Faith, of D101 fame, where there is (hopefully) a spat of pages at the end of the week. That is the plan. We'll have to see what actually happens. Anyway that's the plan for the next week. And that's all for now.
